    On the tool smart battery tester with the dial, what dial setting that I put it on to test a 12 V battery?

    Turn the rotary switch to the auto range position. By default, doing so will prepare the DMM to measure DC rather than AC voltage, indicated by the presence of the DC icon at the lower left of the LCD.
    Plug the black test lead into the front-panel COM jack and the red test lead into the TEMP jack. Touch the black test lead to the negative post, and the red test lead to the positive post.
    Read the measured voltage on the display.If the test leads are reversed a minus sign will appear at the left of the readout.
